Adidas UK Customer Care PO Box 1512 Chelmsford Essex United Kingdom CM1 3YB Dear Sir or Madam: I am writing to complain about a pair of your football boots, which I recently purchased. This is not the first time I have encountered this problem with a pair of Adidas football boots which is why I now feel compelled to draw your attention to the continual repetition of this design flaw. On purchasing a pair of your `World Cup' boots I found, once again, that the laces are too short. I have played football for over twenty years with hundreds of people who all lace their boots in exactly the same way. After putting them on I like to take the laces once round the circumference of the boot before tying a knot. So why are the laces you provide always too short to tie in this manner? Given the time and effort that so obviously goes into the design and manufacture of the boots it is surprising that you are prepared to, if you will excuse the phrase, `undo' all this good work with something so trivial as the length of the laces. <*dv_0*> The most bizarre and frustrating aspect is that the laces are always just fractionally too short. The laces provided with the `World Cup' boots are 146cm long. I estimate that the addition of a mere six centimetres of lace would allow anyone to comfortably tie their boot in the time honoured fashion. As I bought yet another pair of extra long laces from the sports shop I began to wonder if some great conspiracy was not at work. Is this some cunning scheme to extract a few extra pounds from the millions who play football every week? Whoever makes these laces knows exactly how long they need to be so why should this knowledge be exclusive to them? I can only conclude that the company who produce these long laces is some subsidiary of Adidas and that this is indeed a crafty attempt to make me part with a few extra quid. I would have hoped that with your longstanding reputation Adidas would not stoop to such practices. Yours in disillusionment, The Jilted Barfly |
