Luden | Spuistraat 304-306, Amsterdam Tel: +31 (0) 20 6228979 | The Luden is part of a small chain, and is an attractive, typically Amsterdam-ish bar and restaurant situated among the bustling bars on Spuistraat, within walking distance of Dam Square.
Woe betide you if you haven't booked, you will get short shrift in this place! To be fair, they did manage to fit six of us into an already busy restaurant, but it was grudgingly, and we had to wait around an hour. On the whole the staff were snooty and patronising, however this wasn't true across the board, the bar staff were very sociable and seemed to enjoy what they were doing.
This brings me to the food, which is the saving grace of this place. I went for beefsteak in sauce with mixed leaves, and I have to say this was possibly the best steak I have ever tasted. It was cooked perfectly, melted in the mouth, and the sauce took it to a different level.
<*dv_0*> Unfortunately the stroppyness of the staff ruined the night and left a bitter taste in the mouth. I recommend Luden for the food alone, the staff could really do with a lot more training - grimacing and being shirty they have down to a tee, maybe smiling and being courteous could be next on the list?
