A rather bizarre film this one. The posters seem to have George Clooney as the main star but he is barely in the film. That type of thing always worries me, the film being sold on a star instead of its actual content. <*dv_0*> It is basically a comic heist film with your normal useless, braindead villains doing everything wrong. As a premise this is vaguely hackneyed but the film is saved somewhat by the quality of the stars. William H Macy, George Clooney and Luis Guzman (whose mother was a whore) all put in excellent performances and the film does put up some moments of hilarity but the film always seems to be straining. I must say I was expecting a gem of a film but I was slightly dissappointed to see the finished zirconia result. It flatters to deceive but is ultimately just a decent film and nothing more. The plain digestive of the biscuit world. Not bad but leaves you with the distinct impression that a jaffa cake would have been much more satisfying. <*dv_1*> Review by Russell Pottinger |
