Rialto - 'Rialto'

Cinematic! Touching! Pompous! Overblown!

<*dv_1*> All adjectives that have been used to describe Rialto's first long-player - 1997's 'Rialto'. Taking their cues from the likes of John Barry, Bowie and the Kinks, and fusing those styles with post-Oasis Brit-Pop, Rialto's was a unique, very English sound, and one that people found quite hard to pigeonhole, which may explain why Rialto were relatively unsuccessful alongside peers such as Blur and Gene.

And yet everyone who hears the two most well known tracks - 'Monday Morning 5.19' and 'Untouchable' instantly fall in love with the swirling sound and heartfelt lyrics, sung breathily by lead vocalist Louis.

<*dv_0*> Ironically this album has now achieved cult status, which vindicates Rialto's talent and the fact that they may have been ever so slightly ahead of their time.
