What is there left to say that you haven't read about in Hello! magazine? <*dv_1*> Born in 1976, the son of an Iranian arms smuggler and a Welsh secretary, the future looked bleak for young Dara until aged 8, a freak accident in a Hove loft would change his life forever. After mixing the wrong elements in his Gamleys chemistry set he inadvertently caused a huge explosion which wiped out half the town but endowed him with strange powers. He was now blessed with incredible intelligence, dexterity and strength. However such bounty came at a price and he would have to have a lie down every couple of hours and take a nap enabling his body to recover from its daily rigours. Schoolife offered no challenges and forced Dara to seek alternate stimuli. The hands of fate conspired to move his life in new directions and whilst browsing in his local branch of HMV he bumped into 3 other like-minded individuals (they were all browsing the clearance section) and decided to form an early incarnation of what became Yazz and the Plastic Population. Dara was responsible for writing, producing and programming their first singles Doctorin' the House and The Only Way is Up which garnered commercial if not critical plaudits. However due to increased in-fighting over the ownership of the name "Yazz" they split up 2 years later. They are still not on speaking terms. <*dv_0*> Dara continued to write and penned hits for Rick Astley, Brother Beyond, Snap and Technotronic amongst others but became disillusioned with the music industry and moved to Benidorm on the royalties. He took to the lifestyle instantly (the Spanish dedicate 10 siesta days a year just to sleeping) and during a lazy afternoon kicking a ball about on the sandy shore his skills were noticed by a local scout and he was promptly awarded a trial with then-minnows Valencia. The rest is history as he quickly gained cult status and the nickname of "El Conejo" or "the Rabbit" due to his quick turn of pace and his legendary off the field activities (his menage-a-trois in 1993 with 2 of King Juan Carlos' daughters caused a national scandal). It was his antics on the field which grabbed the back pages as he single-handedly elevated them form non-league obscurity to a European Cup Final in Munich where they narrowly lost despite his hat-trick. However at the peak of his powers he was dealt the cruelest of blows when he suffered a career ending injury (he was shot in both kneecaps whilst attempting to foil a bank raid) and was forced to retire from the game. He has since carved out a lucrative media career and is widely known for his charity work with street kids in Rio de Janeiro. In his spare time he has returned to his first love, chemistry, and is currently working on a cancer-cure drug that can be taken in crisp form. Yazdani |
